Ayden's Airplane "Ride"

A few weeks ago, the MOMS Club group that I am in go to go on a tour of a flight school.  It is right next door to the airport, and the back of it actually leads right out to the landing area of the air port.  One of the dads is a flight instructor there.  They took us through the flight school, and showed us this huge map on the wall from ceiling to floor of different airspace over California, Nevada and Arizona.  Then as we walked through, we saw on the wall, all these shirts that were stapled up.  It is a tradition that when someone has their first solo flight, they have their shirt cut off and stapled up on the wall of the school somewhere.  They also write on it and draw pictures, etc.  I think most people wear two shirts that day.  

After we walked through the building, they took us out back, and there were two little planes out there.  The kids got to take turn sitting in them and pushing all the buttons and pulling all the levers.  They had a lot of fun.  They also had a hanger attached to the school with some airplanes just parked.  One of the planes belonged to Kurt Russell.  These planes were a little bigger, but various types.  One looked like a mini passenger plane that should have been on an Indiana Jones movie.  

After everyone had a chance to play in the airplanes, the owner, and the dad/flight teacher, turned the planes on, and gave everyone a little "ride".  They taxied around in an area where other planes are parked.  Kind of like driving around the parking lot.  But the kids had so much fun.  The owner of the flight school was such a nice man.  You could tell that he truly loved children.  It was just so fun.

So, Ayden got to go on his first plane ride.  It wasn't a flight, but I think it still counts.  He is the only one in the family who has traveled in an airplane.  The funny thing is that a few days later, he was picked as spotlight child in primary, and one of the things it asked was "have you ever been in an airplane?" I wrote down "no" because I filled it out a month before, and I knew we weren't flying anywhere soon.  But we had to change the answer to yes, because of the flight school tour.  The sisters didn't go, because they were in school.  Ayden and I had a great time!!
